Vinesh Phogat will not take back her decision to retire from wrestling. Her husband Somveer Rathi confirmed this. Vinesh and her husband arrived in India on 17 August after participating in the Paris Olympics 2024. This female wrestler was given a warm welcome here. Vinesh was disqualified from the final due to being 100 grams overweight in the 50 kg category. She became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the Olympic final. But the dream of a medal was shattered due to disqualification. Vinesh had announced to quit wrestling after this.

Somveer Rathi said in a conversation with India Today Group that Vinesh tried her best but did not succeed. She will not be able to wrestle again. He told that he did not get support from the federation and whatever has happened in the last one and a half to two years has broken him from inside. Somveer told that the night before the final, they tried their best, now they will not be able to say much about it. Vinesh had put her life into losing weight. He did not drink water or eat a morsel of food the whole night. He even cut his hair to reduce his weight but he still had 100 grams more weight.

Somveer Rathi narrated a heart-melting story

On the question of Vinesh wrestling further, Somveer said,

What has been going on for the last one and a half to two years… we don’t have a federation here. There is nothing here for us, so for whom will we play. There is sadness everywhere and there is sports inside her but now it will not be possible. It is very difficult. We had decided very thoughtfully that night. It was not that we did this out of emotion. We had seen everything. No one is standing with us. If no one is standing with the player then what will he be able to do. Our journey ended here. We had thought that we should bring a medal for the country, Vinesh had such feelings. Her two Olympics were spoiled so she was thinking that I will do my best. God gave her everything. He gave her even what she did not ask for. Ever since she started playing, she had one request from God that she should get a medal in the Olympics. She did not get what she asked for from God. She is very sad about this. Now wrestling will not be possible again. It is impossible for us. We are broken from inside. We don’t have any hope from anything now.

He said that the medal was snatched from the country and not from Vinesh in Paris Olympics. If she had won the medal, the country’s name would have been high. She tried her best but medals are not in everyone’s destiny. It is sad that we could not get a medal for the country.
