The statue of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a fort in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, collapsed on Monday. An official gave this information. He said that the 35-foot-high statue collapsed at Rajkot Fort in Malvan at around 1 pm.

Experts will ascertain the exact cause of the building collapse, the official said, but the district has witnessed heavy rains and strong winds in the last two to three days. He said senior police and district administration officials reached the spot to take stock of the situation and the damage is being investigated.
