Uttarakhand: Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari will be the acting Chief Justice, will take appointment from October 11

Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court with effect from October 11, 2024, following the retirement of Justice Ritu Bahri.
The Ministry of Law and Justice has officially notified the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari as the Acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Tiwari will assume the role after the retirement of the current Chief Justice Ritu Bahri on October 10, 2024. The notification issued in this regard said that “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President hereby appoints Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to discharge the duties of the post of Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 11.10.2024, consequent to the retirement of Justice Ritu Bahri, Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, on 10.10.2024.”
Justice Narendra awaits approval from the Central Government
On September 24, 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Narendra G for the post of Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Narendra is currently serving as a judge in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. However, this recommendation is still awaiting approval from the Central Government. Justice Tiwari, a seasoned judge with years of legal experience, will step into this important role during a transitional period for the High Court. The final decision regarding the appointment of Justice Narendra as Chief Justice will mark the next important phase in the leadership of the Uttarakhand High Court. Until then, Justice Tiwari will oversee the proceedings of the court as Acting Chief Justice.
