Uttarakhand: Government strict on debris disposal, instructions to identify dumping zones, District Magistrates got a week’s time

In Uttarakhand, District Magistrates have been given a week’s time to identify dumping zones and send a proposal to the government. Chief Secretary Radha Raturi held a meeting with officials of BRO, NHIDCL and PWD. In which strict instructions have been issued while discussing the issue related to dumping zones.

Dumping of large amounts of debris generated during landslides and development works in the state is a matter of great concern for the state. Many times such debris is thrown down the mountains without a dumping zone. Due to which it also affects the rivers. In such a situation, the state government is seriously working on identifying dumping zones, understanding the problems arising from such debris. Regarding this, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has given instructions to identify dumping zones while holding a meeting with the officials today.

In the meeting, to deal with the challenge of disposal of debris, it has now been asked to identify dumping zones at various places. The special thing is that the district officials of all the districts will have to identify such sites within a week and send a proposal to the government. Clear instructions have been issued at the level of the Chief Secretary that revenue land should be identified at all places. If revenue land is not available in some areas, then forest land should be searched for this.

It has been clearly said that during development works, the rules related to the disposal of debris in the dumping zone should be strictly followed. At places where dumping zones are full, work should be done to expand such areas. Not only have instructions been issued on the disposal of debris in the dumping zone, but it has also been asked to make an action plan on the use of debris from here. Green patches have also been asked to be developed in the dumping zone. Apart from this, various agencies have also been instructed to conduct inspections in coordination with the District Magistrate. The special thing is that the action organizations related to dumping have demanded about 81 hectares of land in view of the need for the next 5 years. The government is serious about following the rules related to the dumping zone regarding debris.
