Uttarakhand: Model Code of Conduct implemented in Rudraprayag district, procession and public meeting banned without prior permission

With the announcement of the dates of Kedarnath by-election, the model code of conduct has come into force in the district. District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar has issued prohibitory orders under the provisions of Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code-2023 in view of the possibility of anti-social and undesirable elements disrupting peace and public peace by arousing communal and caste sentiments in the elections.

Code of conduct implemented in Rudraprayag district

With the implementation of the model code of conduct in Rudraprayag, on the orders of District Magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar, no gathering or meeting can be organized at any public place in the district without the prior permission of the concerned Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer. Apart from this, the use of loudspeakers for election campaign by any candidate or his supporters will also be prohibited.

Procession and public meeting prohibited without prior permission

No group of five or more persons will be formed at any public place without permission nor will anyone join such a group. When the Model Code of Conduct comes into force, no person shall carry or keep a stick, axe, knife, sword or spear or firearm etc. in any public place.

No person shall use abusive language towards anyone in a public place nor shall raise such slogans which may hurt anyone’s sentiments or may cause breach of peace. There will also be a ban on taking out processions without prior permission. The District Magistrate has directed all the concerned officials to ensure mandatory compliance of the above conditions.
