This year, fewer incidents of stubble burning were found in Punjab, government imposed a fine of Rs 9 lakh

Punjab has seen a decline in stubble burning incidents this season, with a total of 1,212 incidents of stubble burning recorded from September 15 to October 16. During this period, the government issued 340 challans against farmers and imposed a fine of Rs 9 lakh, of which Rs 7.67 lakh was recovered. With the change in weather, stubble burning increases the problem of pollution and it is important to curb these incidents.

Most incidents in Amritsar

According to the information given by the Punjab government to the National Green Tribunal, the highest number of incidents have been recorded in Amritsar (400), Tarn Taran (261) and Patiala (134). At the same time, the lowest number of incidents have been recorded in Pathankot, where there is no incident of stubble burning.

Fewer incidents of stubble burning this year

Keeping in mind the ever-increasing pollution, so far 51 cases have been registered against farmers in 2024 under Section 188 and 41 cases under CRPC 107/151. Along with this, a total of 1,144 FIRs were registered in 2023. Let us tell you that in the year 2020, till October 18, a total of 7,429 incidents were registered, but this year this number has come down to 1,348. The state has deployed 9,492 village/cluster/district level officers, who are responsible for implementing action and environmental compensation under the orders of NGT.
