Uttarakhand: Fake Baba arrested in Haridwar; real Mahant murdered and a fake one installed, sold the ashram for 10 crores, threw the body in Ganga

A case of murder of a saint for property worth crores has come to light in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. Police has arrested four accused in this case. The saint has been missing for the last four months. Police has not found the body of the saint yet. According to the police, the accused have confessed to killing him during interrogation and throwing the body in the Ganga. Let us tell you that the police revealed this blind murder case within 24 hours of receiving the complaint.

The disciple had registered a missing report

Haridwar SSP Pramod Dobal revealed the whole case in a press conference. He told that a cloth seller had hatched this entire conspiracy along with his associates. According to the SSP, in fact, the Mahant’s phone was switched off for the last 4 months and when there was no news of him, one of the Mahant’s disciples Rudranand (resident Raiwala Gauri Geeta Ashram Birla Mandir Dehradun) had registered a missing report of the Mahant with the Haridwar police on October 17, after which the case was revealed.

Govind Das was missing for four months

Rudranand had told the police in his complaint that his guru Mahant Govind Das (disciple Bishambar Das Maharaj resident of Shraddha Bhakti Ashram Gyanlok Colony Kanakkh Haridwar) has been missing since June 15. According to Rudranand’s complaint, Mahant Govind Das went to Rajasthan from Haridwar Ashram for religious preaching in June this year, but never returned.

Suspicion arose on the new Baba

Kankhal police station registered the missing of Mahant Govind Das and started investigating the case. When the police interrogated the ashram workers Manishananda, Shobhit and the acquaintances of the missing Mahant, it was found that a new Baba has come to the ashram since June this year, who was never seen before. The police also suspected the Baba. On the basis of suspicion, the police started interrogating the new Baba Ram Gopal.

According to the police, at first Ram Gopal tried to mislead the police but later he broke down and he revealed the whole truth to the police. According to the police, Ram Gopal has confessed that his associates killed Mahant Govind Das.

The mastermind who saved the clothes was found out

In the police investigation, it was revealed that the mastermind of this whole game is Ashok, who came to the ashram in February 2024. Ashok used to come to the ashram and nearby areas to sell clothes. During this time, he used to stay in the ashram sometimes. That’s when he met Baba Govind Das. Ashok knew Baba since the year 2021. For this reason, he also stayed in the ashram for about 3 months.

The main accused Ashok used to call his friends Lalit, Saurabh and Pradeep to the ashram from time to time. During this, they gathered a lot of information about the Mahant of the ashram not having a successor and the valuable property of the ashram located in the heart of the city. After gathering the information, Ashok went back and hatched a complete conspiracy to kill Mahant Govind Das with his companions Lalit, Saurabh and Pradeep. All four had their eyes on the ashram and property of Mahant Govind Das.

All CCTV cameras installed in the ashram were removed

According to the police, the four accused first removed all the CCTV cameras installed in the ashram. After this, on June 1, 2024, seeing the opportunity, first of all Mahant Ram Govind Das was made unconscious by injecting him with drugs. Then Govind Das was strangled to death. After this, the accused took a rented scooty and put the body in a sack and threw it in the river Ganga.

After the murder of Mahant, on June 3, mastermind Ashok called one of his acquaintances, fake Baba Ram Gopal Nath, to monitor the ashram by luring him with money. After the murder of Mahant, the main accused Ashok misled the servants associated with the ashram and the acquaintances of the Mahant by saying that Mahant ji has gone to Ayodhya for religious preaching, so a new Baba has been appointed to take care of the ashram. At the same time, Ashok also kept the fake Baba in the dark and asked him to give the same answer to everyone.

Baba Ram also got the news of Mahant’s death

According to the police, later the fake Baba Ram Gopal also came to know about Mahant’s murder, but due to the greed of expenses from time to time and the huge profit that would come in his share by selling the ashram, he kept quiet and kept this matter suppressed. A total of 6 accused have come forward in the police investigation. Four have been arrested while the search for two is on.

The dream was to grab property worth crores

After the murder, Ashok took with him Mahant’s FD worth about 50 lakhs, check book, mobile phone and other documents. He was putting different SIMs in the deceased Mahant’s mobile with the intention of misleading people. Along with this, from June till now, the main accused has also withdrawn about 10 lakh rupees by making fake signatures from Mahant’s bank account cheque. At the same time, Ashok, along with Sanjeev Tyagi, was preparing to sell the ashram for ten crore rupees by making a fake will.

This is what was recovered

The original documents of FD worth Rs 16 lakh have been recovered from the accused, which he was roaming around to encash. Along with this, two cheque books and a photocopy of a fake will have been recovered. On the identification of the accused, the packet of injection and intoxicating pill used during the crime has been recovered.

These four accused have been arrested, search for two is on-

• Ashok Kumar (son of Raghuveer Singh, House No. 57, Street No. 02, Durgapuri Extension, Shahdara, Police Station Jyoti Nagar, Delhi).
• Lalit (son of Dinesh Sharma, resident of Prithvi Vihar, near FCI godown, Meerut Road, Police Station 32, Sector Karnal).
• Sanjeev Kumar Tyagi (son of Sharadchand, resident of Mundet, Police Station Mangalore, Haridwar).
• Yogi Ramgopal Nath alias Gopal Singh (son of late Manfool Singh, resident of village Kohra, Police Station Sajethi, Tehsil Ghatampur, District Kanpur Nagar 78, UP)

All these accused are 10th and 12th pass. The main accused Ashok was in the clothing business. Ashok had gone to jail in 2004 in a case of bike theft and accused Lalit had gone to jail in a case of jewelers robbery from Haryana, Karnal.
