Uttarakhand: Slums will not be demolished, Dhami said – the government will work to keep the slums intact

The existence of about 40 thousand houses built in 129 slums of the capital Dehradun is under threat. In fact, 3 years ago, the state government had extended the tenure of the ordinance for 3 years for the second time. The ordinance expires on October 23. After this, 582 slums present across the state including Dehradun will come under the illegal category. After this, the order of the High Court regarding the removal of illegal settlements will have to be followed. On which Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the settlements will remain as they are.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given a big statement regarding slums. CM Dhami said that the slums will remain as they are. The government is completely sensitive towards the slums and the people living in them. In such a situation, the government will work for the slums to remain where they are.

In fact, the demand for regularizing the slums located on the banks of other rivers and drains including Rispana and Bindal in Dehradun and giving ownership rights has been raised for years. But since the formation of the state of Uttarakhand, the governments have not been able to find a solution to this. Whereas during every election, the people living in slums have been used as a vote bank.

However, just before the civic elections in the year 2018, the Nainital High Court had ordered the evacuation of all these slums and their rehabilitation. Due to which the Dehradun Municipal Corporation administration had also served notices in the slums present in the city of Dehradun. But in view of the municipal elections in the year 2018, the then BJP government had brought an ordinance to save all the 582 settlements of the state.

This ordinance was in the form of a temporary arrangement for the next three years and during that time the government had emphasized that a permanent solution would be found regarding the slums. But as soon as the time of the ordinance was over in the year 2021, the ordinance was again extended for three years. Whose time is ending on 23 October. In such a situation, there is confusion about the existence of slums.
