NGT receives complaint of illegal mining in Rishikesh, DM instructs SDM to collect evidence
During monsoon, the water level of river Ganga rises. Due to this, the water of the river reaches the paved ghats. Due to this, silt also gets deposited on the ghats, which becomes a cause of trouble for the devotees. Last year, Rishikesh tehsil administration had issued a tender to remove this silt. A local resident complained to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and alleged that illegal mining has taken place here under the guise of tender. A joint team was formed on the orders of NGT. Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal, who was part of the team, reached the spot and investigated.
An investigation has started into the complaint made to NGT regarding the violation of rules and illegal mining in the tender for removing the silt that came to Triveni Ghat during the rainy season. A complaint was made to NGT in this matter by local citizen Ramkripal Gautam. On the orders of NGT, DM Dehradun Savin Bansal inspected Triveni Ghat and Chandrabhaga river along with subordinate officials. During this, the DM looked at the answers to all the questions and aspects related to the investigation. The DM has instructed the SDM and other officials to collect evidence regarding the ignorance of rules and illegal mining.
Asked for cooperation from the public for evidence
District Magistrate Bansal has also asked to take possession of the footage of CCTV cameras installed around Triveni Ghat and Chandrabhaga by watching it. Apart from this, the SDM has been instructed to publish a press release in newspapers and obtain photo videos related to illegal mining with the help of the public.
Report will be presented in NGT court
He has also contacted the complainant and asked him to investigate the evidence and put it in the file as evidence. DM Savin Bansal said that an investigation has been started on the complaint made to NGT in the matter of ignorance of tender rules and illegal mining. After investigation, the report will be presented in NGT court.
