Uttarakhand / Dehradun: Now the liquor shop will not open… a controversy erupted over running an open bar, orders issued to suspend it permanently
Orders have been given to permanently suspend a liquor shop that was suspended on charges of running an open bar on Rajpur Road. Secretary Higher Education Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha has issued orders in this regard.
Local people had protested against this liquor shop on Rajpur Road
Excise Commissioner Hari Chand had stayed the closure of the liquor shop during the hearing, but the government agreed that there should not be a liquor shop at that place. According to the order given by Secretary Higher Education, Technical Education Ranjit Kumar Sinha to the Excise Commissioner, it has been decided in the investigation that liquor is served openly at the liquor shop located at Opal Lodge Welding, Rajpur Road, due to which there is extreme anger and resentment among local residents, women, elderly and others.
Many flaws came to light
Many irregularities were also found during the inspection of the shop, as a result of which the District Magistrate, Dehradun took effective action and suspended the license of the said liquor shop for 15 days. The secretary said that this liquor contract is located at a distance of only 100 meters from the Government Women Inter College, Rajpur Road and 200 meters from other educational institutions, due to which there is a strong possibility of adverse effect on the students studying in educational institutions. Therefore, in the interest of the students, this contract should either be transferred elsewhere or the license should be kept permanently suspended.
DM and Excise Commissioner came face to face
DM Savin Bansal and Excise Commissioner Harichand Semwal came face to face. DM Savin Bansal ordered to suspend the license of the liquor shop for 15 days, on the other hand, Excise Commissioner Harichand Semwal gave a stay on the suspension and issued orders to open the liquor shop.
The DM refused to open the liquor shop. He sent a letter to the Excise Commissioner and asked to explain the deficiency in his order. On what basis was the suspension order cancelled? The district administration was constantly receiving complaints ranging from overrating to running open bars outside liquor shops.
Local women and elderly residents of Rajpur Road Bahal Chowk had complained in the public hearing. It was told that liquor is being served openly in the liquor shop located in Opal Lodge Building. It is difficult for women and girls to get out of here.
Bar running illegally in the basement
The DM got the matter investigated by SDM Sadar. It was found that a bar is being run illegally in the basement of Opal Lodge Building. The Liquor Hub (licensed shop of foreign liquor) is selling goods related to alcohol consumption by setting up many illegal shops and kiosks in the vicinity, apart from selling liquor. A large quantity of liquor bottles and cups and glasses used for consumption were also found in the basement.
On this, a challan of five lakhs was taken and the license of the liquor shop was suspended for 15 days. The dispute started from here. The Excise Commissioner, contrary to the DM’s order, gave a stay and issued orders to open the shop on the same day.
