Uttarakhand: Food department in action during festive season, more than one quintal fake mawa caught during checking

The Food Department’s raid and checking campaign is going on in Lalkuan to prevent adulteration of food items in view of the Diwali festival. In this sequence, under the instructions of the district administration, the Food Department team has succeeded in catching more than one quintal of fake mawa during checking on Wednesday night.

Fake mawa sellers become active on the occasion of festivals and mawa smugglers from other states play with the lives of people by delivering mawa to various areas of Uttarakhand. Under this, the Nainital District Officer formed a team which has been taking action against fake sweet makers and mawa smugglers in the area for some time. The Food Department is also in action in view of the festive season.

The team caught fake mawa during checking

Late last night in Lalkuan, the departmental team present under the joint leadership of District Designated Officer Sanjay Kumar and Regional Food Inspector Kailash Chandra Tamta received information about a large quantity of fake mawa coming from Bareilly. On which the Food Department team conducted a checking campaign at the Lalkuan Kotwali main intersection.

Then a pickup truck coming from Bareilly with the words ‘Press’ written on it was stopped and checked. More than 1 quintal of fake mawa was recovered from it. This is a big action by the team before Diwali. The team has taken the said mawa in its possession and taken its samples. Also, it is being investigated whose mawa it is and where it was being transported.

Investigation is being done by taking samples of food items

District Designated Officer Sanjay Kumar said that in view of the upcoming festivals, this campaign will continue. He said that during this campaign, the department’s team has raided Nainital, Ramnagar and Halduchaur in the last two days and taken samples of more than a dozen food items which are being investigated.
