Dhami government gave relief, after eight years classification of 128 slums of Doon was done, 78 were in trouble
The Municipal Corporation has classified 128 slums identified in 2016 after eight years. After classification, 50 slums have been put in category one and three. There is still a problem with 78 slums. Due to lack of classification of the settlements, these settlements have not been notified yet.
Now that the government has taken steps forward for the third time to provide security cover to the slums, in view of this, the slums have been classified about 15 days ago. Under the Improvement, Regulation and Rehabilitation of Slums Located in Municipal Bodies of Uttarakhand State and Encroachment Prohibition Act 2016, the slums of Dehradun were provided protection.
Under this, the slums were to be identified and then classified and then notified. Based on this, work was to be done on these settlements. At that time, the Municipal Corporation had conducted a survey and identified 128 settlements in Dehradun, but they could not be classified.
Recently, the Municipal Corporation has classified them. Among these, three settlements Kumhar Basti Ajabpur, Loharwala Kishanpur, Machhi Talab have been placed in category one, while 47 settlements have been placed in category three land. Not even a single settlement could be placed in category two land.

Slums were to be divided into three categories. Category one was to include such settlements in which houses are habitable and land ownership rights can be given to them as per the prescribed standards. Apart from this, under category two, such land which is in environmentally or geographically sensitive area and that area should be classified and it should be possible to make that area habitable by adopting protective measures and it should be possible to provide land ownership rights. The third category is that of settlements located on such land which is not suitable from the point of view of legal, practical and human habitation, health and safety.
After eight years, the corporation remembered and classified the land
Municipal elections are near and slums are a big issue for BJP and Congress. In the last three years, no organization remembered the slums. However, the opposition has been reminding the government about the slums from time to time through rhetoric and other means. In the month of October, the Municipal Corporation remembered it and classified the land.
Classification of 78 settlements is a policy decision
The Doon Municipal Corporation has not been able to classify 78 settlements, because these 78 settlements are in the non-Z-A category. These non-Z-A categories include private land and land acquired under the Non-Zamindari Destruction Act. The Municipal Corporation has not been able to take a decision regarding these 78 settlements. Due to this, the decision regarding these settlements has been left to the government.
