Uttarakhand: Students climbed on the water tank demanding student union elections, warned of hunger strike

After the order of Nainital High Court, it has become clear that there will be no student union elections in Uttarakhand this year. On the other hand, after this news came out, the student leaders are angry. Student leaders are protesting at various places in the state demanding student union elections. On Friday, 25 October, students created a ruckus in Rishikesh campus of Shri Dev Suman University. During this, some students climbed on the water tank. Even the police had a tough time convincing them.
The students who were creating ruckus surrounded the government fiercely regarding the student union elections. The students have made it clear that if student union elections are not held, then they will not even back down from going on a hunger strike. The students say that the entire focus of the government is on Kedarnath by-election and municipal body elections. There is a possibility of the ruling party’s organization getting a crushing defeat in the student union elections. Due to this fear, the government is not ready to conduct the student union elections. Because if Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad loses the election, then it will affect the by-election and municipal body elections of Kedarnath.
Outgoing student union president Himanshu Jatav says that NSUI has been demanding student union elections for a long time, but gradually the date of student union elections has been delayed and now citing the High Court order, there is talk of not holding student union elections, which is a direct alarm bell for the political future of the students.
At the same time, after the students climbed the water tank, the police-administration team also reached the spot. The police tried a lot to convince the students who climbed the water tank, but they are not ready to listen to anyone. The police is constantly trying to convince the students.
