Uttarakhand: Case filed against more than 100 students in Rishikesh, they had created ruckus in the university campus regarding student union elections

The sit-in protest demanding student union elections in Rishikesh campus of Shri Dev Suman University proved costly for some students. Police have registered a case against 100 to 120 students for blocking the national highway and attempting suicide by climbing on a water tank.

The students are also accused of pushing the police and obstructing government work. The police have registered a case and started investigating the matter. Along with this, unknown students are also being identified. Let us tell you that a PIL was filed in the Uttarakhand High Court regarding the student union elections. During the hearing on the petition, the High Court disposed it after hearing the government’s side. Due to which it was clear that there will be no student union elections in the state this year.

Since this news came out, student leaders are protesting in colleges and universities and demanding the government to conduct student union elections. In the same sequence, on Friday, 25 October, some students of Shri Dev Suman University’s Rishikesh campus created a ruckus and blocked the national highway and also climbed on the water tank. The police somehow managed to pacify the students and bring them down. Rishikesh Kotwal Rajendra Singh Kholia said that the police have registered a case against 100 to 120 unknown students in this case.
