Uttarakhand: Contempt notice issued on the petition of IFS officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi, case of contempt of High Court order against DoPT Secretary
The case of empanelment of IFS officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi at the level of Joint Secretary in the Centre is making headlines. In this case, Sanjeev Chaturvedi has been asking for the records of empanelment at the level of Joint Secretary from the Centre. But after not getting these records at the level of the Central Government, he knocked the door of the High Court. The special thing is that in this case, the High Court had also directed the Department of Personnel and Training of the Centre to provide the relevant records to the petitioner Sanjeev Chaturvedi. When these were not followed, Sanjeev Chaturvedi filed a contempt petition.
Actually Sanjeev Chaturvedi is trying to get empaneled at the level of Joint Secretary in the Centre. But his efforts were not successful, after which he had asked for all the records from the concerned department. Sanjeev Chaturvedi, while arguing himself in the High Court, raised the issue of contempt of court for not following the instructions of the court. Sanjay Chaturvedi told that on this matter, a single bench of Justice Alok Verma has issued a contempt notice to the respondent DoPT Secretary Vivek Joshi on 23 October. Sanjeev Chaturvedi had filed this petition for non-compliance of the High Court order of September 3.
Petitioner Sanjeev Chaturvedi in the court said that the DoPT Secretary was informed about the High Court order through a letter written on September 11, 2024 and a reminder sent later. Despite this, the orders were deliberately violated. In this case, the High Court has issued a contempt notice and fixed December 19 for the next hearing and also directed to take necessary action on it within the next one week.
Earlier on November 15, 2022, an order of the Central Government said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has not approved the inclusion of Sanjeev Chaturvedi in the empanelment for holding the post of Joint Secretary / equivalent post at the Center. The special thing is that Sanjeev Chaturvedi has been given excellent grading many times during central deputation. Apart from this, the matter of Presidential orders in his favor four times during his tenure in Haryana was also put in the court.
Sanjay Chaturvedi said that earlier in the matter of his deputation, the circuit bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal had also issued a contempt notice to the Secretary in the Ministry of Forest and Environment, which is still pending.
