Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that if the US and its NATO allies help Ukraine attack inside Russia with long-range missiles, it will be responded to. He said that the Russian Defense Ministry is working on various ways to respond. It has been more than two and a half years since Russia attacked Ukraine. Despite this, there is no possibility of it ending. Due to this war, the biggest confrontation between Russia and the West has started once again after the Cold War. Meanwhile, Russian officials say that the Ukraine war is now entering its most dangerous phase.
Why did Putin threaten the West
Russia has been signaling to the US and its allies for several weeks that if they allow Ukraine to attack deep inside Russian territory with missiles supplied by Western countries, Moscow would consider it a major escalation. Putin said on September 12 that Western countries’ approval for such a move would mean “direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States and European countries in the war in Ukraine.” He said that, .. because Ukraine does not have such a capability, NATO military infrastructure and personnel will have to be involved in targeting and firing missiles.
Putin said – considering ways to retaliate
Putin said it was too early to say how Russia would react to such a move, but Moscow would have to respond accordingly and various options were being considered. Putin told Russian state TV’s top Kremlin reporter Pavel Zarubin, “(The Russian Defense Ministry) is thinking about how to respond to possible long-range attacks on Russian territory, it will respond in a variety of ways.”
Russia moving rapidly in Ukraine
Russia is currently advancing in eastern Ukraine at the fastest pace since the first months of the invasion. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is requesting Western countries to allow Kiev to strike deep into Russia with Western missiles. There are reports that the US has not given Ukraine permission to attack inside Russia and is consulting with its allies on the issue.
