Uttarakhand: Leopard terror in Champawat, deadly attack on elderly woman, panic in the area

A leopard attacked an elderly woman in Barakot block of Champawat. The woman has been admitted to the hospital for the area. There is an atmosphere of panic in the area after the leopard attack.

Leopard attacks elderly woman

The incident took place at 8 pm on Saturday evening. According to the information received, a leopard attacked 55-year-old elderly woman Madhavi Devi, wife of late Mahavir Singh, in Barakot block. It is being told that the woman was roaming in the courtyard. The woman’s family and village head representative Dhan Singh Adhikari took the elderly to Lohaghat sub-district hospital. From where the woman has been referred to the district hospital Champawat.

It has made cattle its prey in the past

Gram Pradhan representative Dhan Singh Adhikari, while giving information, said that the leopard had entered the woman’s cowshed. Seeing which the cattle made noise. Hearing the noise, the elderly went to the cowshed where the leopard attacked the woman. Hearing the screams of the elderly, the family came out. Seeing the crowd gathered, the leopard ran away towards the forest. Dhan Singh said that the leopard has killed four goats in the village in the last two days.

An atmosphere of panic in the area

The villagers have asked the forest department to catch the leopard by placing a cage in the area. On receiving the information, Kali Kumaon Ranger Rajesh Kumar Joshi inspected the spot with the forest department team on Sunday morning. Ranger Rajesh Kumar Joshi, who reached Lohaghat sub-district hospital, said that the family members of the woman injured in the leopard attack have been given financial assistance for treatment. Trap cameras will be installed in the leopard-affected area. There is an atmosphere of panic in the area since the incident.
