The country’s leading economist and Chief of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council Bibek Debroy is no more. He died at the age of 69. Economist Bibek Debroy, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024. The Prime Minister has also tweeted condoling the death of Bibek Debroy, who was associated with many prominent institutions of the country.

PM Modi wrote that Dr. Bibek Debroy was a great scholar, who was knowledgeable in economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and other diverse fields. He wrote that I have known Dr. Debroy for many years. I will always remember his insight and his passion for academic discussion. Remembering Bibek Debroy, he wrote that he was well versed in economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and other diverse fields.
In an emotional post, the PM wrote that apart from his contribution to public policy, he also enjoyed working on our ancient texts and making them accessible to the youth. He was appointed to the post of Chairman in September 2017. In the year 2015, he was made a permanent member of the NITI Aayog.
