Whatsapp takes a big action, bans more than 85 lakh accounts in India
WhatsApp banned more than 85 lakh bad accounts in India in September after violations of policies were found. This information has been given in the monthly compliance report of the Internet media platform under the new IT rule 2021. Between September 1 and 30, the company banned more than 85 lakh accounts and more than 16 lakh of these accounts were banned proactively before any report from the users.
The mobile messaging platform has more than 60 crore users in India. The company received 8,161 complaints from across the country and action was taken on 97 of them. Action taken accounts mean those complaints where WhatsApp took remedial action. According to WhatsApp, two orders were received from the Grievance Appellate Committee which were complied with.
The company said that we will continue to be transparent in our work and will include information about our efforts in future reports. A team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers, and experts in law enforcement, online security, and technology development has been appointed to oversee these efforts.
