Almora bus accident exposed Uttarakhand government, seven crores were received but PWD did not install crash barriers, CM ordered an inquiry
The Marchula bus accident in Almora has exposed the road safety arrangements. In two years, the Public Works Department was given Rs 7 crore to install crash barriers here. Despite this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed strong displeasure over not installing crash barriers and ordered an inquiry. Earlier, on the orders of the CM, two in-charge ARTOs were suspended on Monday itself.
The negligence of the Public Works Department is also being considered as one of the main reasons for the bus accident in Marchula. It is being told that this road was damaged at many places. Crash barriers were not installed anywhere on it for road safety. When Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took a meeting on Tuesday, he expressed strong displeasure over the working style of the Public Works Department.
A budget of seven crores was given to the PWD to install crash barriers in two years. Despite this, the officers remained silent. They did not make any arrangements. CM Dhami has asked the PWD officers why crash barriers have not been built despite getting the budget. The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the entire matter.
If there are less buses, buy new buses soon
In this case, two ARTOs of the Transport Department were suspended on Monday itself. Now after investigation, the government can take action against PWD officers as well. On the other hand, the CM has given instructions to assess the availability of roadways buses within 10 days. He said that additional buses should be operated during the festival. If there are less buses, buy new buses soon. Common people should not face problems in commuting.
