Uttarakhand / Dehradun: Congress opposed the slum ordinance in Raipur assembly
In Raipur assembly constituency of Dehradun Municipal Corporation, under the leadership of Congress spokesperson Abhinav Thapar, a strong protest was held against the BJP’s slum ordinance in Kath Bangla Basti Ward 59. The people of the area criticized the BJP government and alleged that despite the BJP being in power for the last 15 years, the problems of Kath Bangla Basti were not resolved.
Congress opposed the slum ordinance
Congress leader Abhinav Thapar said that the Municipal Corporation Dehradun has a BJP mayor for the last 15 years. For many years, there is a BJP MLA and MP in this area. But till date, the sword is hanging over Kath Bangla Basti – Ward 59. On the one hand, the BJP government is misleading by bringing an ordinance for slums. On the other hand, the District Magistrate has issued a notice to vacate the colony by December 10, 2024. Which shows the contradictory policies of the government.
Arrangement of roofs should be made for slums
Thapar said that the government should regularize the slums or make arrangements for roofs in place of roofs for all the more than 85 thousand slums, only then can Dehradun’s two main rivers Rispana and Bindal be saved. Thapar said that it is clearly mentioned in the NGT orders that action will not be taken against those built before 11 March 2016, yet many constructions built before 2016 were also demolished. The government should do the work of rehabilitation before demolition.
