OBC reservation case in Uttarakhand civic elections, HC seeks committee report from government

The Uttarakhand High Court heard a PIL filed regarding fixing the reservation of OBCs in the state’s upcoming civic elections. Continuing the hearing of the case, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma asked the state government to submit the reservation report of retired Justice BS Verma in writing tomorrow on November 7.
On the hearing held on Wednesday, November 6, the state government said that a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of retired Justice BS Verma of the High Court to decide the reservation in the bodies. The report of which has now been received by the government. On which the state government is going to bring a new bill to fix the reservation. The court has asked the government to present it in writing.
According to the case, it has been said on behalf of the petitioner that the state government is determining the reservation in the bodies as per the 2011 census. The civic elections of 2018 were held on this basis. But at present, the vote bank of OBCs has increased in the plains of the state instead of the mountains. Therefore, on the basis of the report of the OBC committee, they should be given 27 percent reservation.
On this, the state government said that the state government has issued a notification regarding reservation. In which objections have been sought. The objections have been resolved. Rudrapur resident Rizwan Ansari has filed a PIL in this matter.
