According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, South Korean President Yun Suk Yeol, US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba have issued a joint statement after a trilateral meeting in Lima during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the trilateral partnership. According to them, it is important to counter regional security threats and promote stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
What is the plan ahead?
The three leaders said in a joint statement, “Today we announce the establishment of a trilateral secretariat, which will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of our shared commitments.”
The statement said, “This new secretariat will strive to ensure that the work we do together will further strengthen our objectives and actions to make the Indo-Pacific region a prosperous, connected, resilient, stable and secure region.”
Annoyed with Russia, rebellion against Kim Jong already?
In the meeting, the three leaders condemned North Korea for sending its troops to support Russia’s war against Ukraine. Let us tell you that Seoul and Washington are constantly claiming that North Korean troops allegedly deployed in the Kursk region on Russia’s western border have started combat operations against the Ukrainian army.
According to the statement, “Japan, ROK and the United States strongly condemn the decision by the leaders of the DPRK and Russia to dangerously expand Moscow’s aggressive war against Ukraine.”
Will cooperate in fighting the war
The Republic of Korea (ROK) is the official name of South Korea. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the official name of North Korea. The joint statement said, “Deepening military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia, including war materials and ballistic missile transfers, is particularly important as Russia has the status of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.” The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to the ‘complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’.
