West Bengal: The shooter had come to kill the TMC councilor in Kolkata, the pistol got jammed at the last moment
In a sensational incident in Kolkata, an attempt was made to shoot TMC councilor Sushant Ghosh in public. However, he narrowly escaped the attack as the gun did not fire at the last moment and the councilor’s life was saved.
According to news agency PTI, Kolkata Police has arrested a taxi driver in the case on Saturday. After this, the total number of people arrested in the case has become two. A senior official told the agency that this arrest was made when the taxi driver’s name came up during interrogation of the arrested accused.
Shooter arrested
Earlier on Friday evening, an attempt was made to shoot Sushant Ghosh from close range in Kasba area of southern part of Kolkata. When the bullet did not fire, the shooter tried to escape from there, but he was soon caught. The entire incident has also been captured in the CCTV camera installed at Ghosh’s house. Police had arrested accused Yuvraj Singh in the case.
The official told PTI that preliminary investigations revealed that arrested taxi driver Ahmed had dropped Yuvraj Singh and his associate Iqbal from Howrah station to the city’s Port area on Thursday night, where they were staying. On Saturday morning, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited the spot and inspected the area.
Security of councillor beefed up
“The matter is being investigated. So far two people have been arrested. Further action is being taken. We are taking action. The person who was carrying a weapon is a resident of Vaishali in Bihar. I cannot speak much about the case as the investigation is still on,” Verma told reporters.
Earlier, Kolkata’s Ward No. 108 TMC councillor Ghosh had a narrow escape on Friday evening when two men tried to shoot at him from close range. When one of the two men on a two-wheeler pressed the trigger of the gun, the bullet did not fire. One of the attackers was caught by the locals and handed over to the police. Meanwhile, sources close to the TMC leader said that Ghosh’s security has been beefed up after the attack.
