Manipur CM and 7 MLAs’ houses attacked, curfew imposed in 5 districts

The situation in Manipur is again getting out of control. Violence has erupted after the bodies of 6 missing persons were found in a river in Jiribam district. Protesters attacked the houses of three ministers and six MLAs on Saturday. CM’s residence was targeted. However, it was not the CM’s official residence. Security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The state government imposed curfew in five districts. Internet services have been shut down in about 7 districts. The angry mob also attacked the church. All this happened despite the presence of large number of army and other security forces in Manipur.

At the same time, large scale violence has been reported in some parts of Imphal valley districts. Police said that the protesters vandalized the houses of three out of six MLAs, including CM N. Biren Singh’s son-in-law. Their properties were set on fire. Due to deteriorating law and order situation, indefinite curfew has been imposed in Imphal East and West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts of Imphal valley.

Now such news is coming out that the bodies of these missing people have been recovered from a river on the state border with Assam. It is being alleged that this incident has been carried out by the Kuki community. As soon as the people of the Meitei community came to know about this, their crowd went out of control. Started vandalism. After this, the people who came out on the road set the vehicles on fire. Internet services were shut down in many districts. These are the districts where the number of people of Meitei community is the highest.

Minister offered to resign

The protesters also attacked the house of Health Minister Sapam Ranjan. His house is located in Lampel Sankeithel of Imphal West district. Police said that Sapam told the protesters that he would raise the matter of six murders in the cabinet meeting. If the government does not respect the sentiments of the people.
