Uttarakhand: We also need employment! Unemployed people flocked to the army recruitment being held in the border district Pithoragarh, the transport system of four districts collapsed
The recruitment for various posts in the Territorial Army in the border district of Pithoragarh has disrupted the transport system of four districts of Kumaon. Candidates who somehow manage to reach Haldwani in the plains have to travel 250 kms to reach Pithoragarh. All the arrangements failed in front of the problem.
The administration officials are sweating it out to maintain law and order. Passengers are not getting seats in the buses going from Pithoragarh to Delhi and Dehradun. A three-day holiday has had to be declared in the schools of Pithoragarh city.
Preparations for the army recruitment were discussed in the meeting between the army and the administration earlier, but no one had guessed that such a huge crowd of youth would gather. The result of this was that the administration had to deploy additional vehicles to control the crowd of youth from Tanakpur and Haldwani to the recruitment center in Pithoragarh.
The problem of jam has also arisen on the route to the recruitment center in Pithoragarh. Youths were seen wandering for buses at stations. The problems of people from the border districts who travel to Delhi suddenly increased when the buses were turned back from Tanakpur. Some youths who reached here after covering hundreds of kilometres were also seen sleeping outside the shutters of shops.
Thousands of youth started gathering in Rudrapur, Haldwani, Tanakpur and Champawat from Monday to go to Pithoragarh. As the crowd increased, buses from roadways to KEMU started falling short. This phase can continue for another week. The reason is that the candidates going to Pithoragarh will have difficulty in returning.
This one recruitment has ruined the arrangements in Rudrapur, Haldwani, Tanakpur and Champawat districts to such an extent that the district administration officials had to reach the roadways stations and get down to handle the arrangements. They have to spend the whole day there. Not only the candidates but also the common people have been affected by the deteriorating system. These days, there is not a single bus to go on the mountain roads on which roadways and KEMU buses were easily available to the passengers. Buses of other routes have also been arranged to take the candidates. Despite this, candidates and common passengers are running around for buses from Haldwani to Champawat.
