On World Fisheries Day, Uttarakhand received the Best Fisheries Award among the Himalayan and North-Eastern states, the Union Minister handed over the award to the departmental secretary

Uttarakhand has been awarded the Best Award in the Himalayan and North-Eastern States category by the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad for the innovative experiments done in the field of fisheries. The award was handed over to Uttarakhand’s Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries Department, Dr BVRC Purushottam by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, at a ceremony organized in New Delhi on World Fisheries Day on Thursday.

The Uttarakhand Fisheries Department has built more than 1400 trout raceways in the state for trout farming, and a state-level aquapark and a wholesale market have also been built in Udham Singh Nagar under the Matsya Sampada Yojana. Not only this, the department has also signed a contract for fish supply between local fish farmers’ groups and the ITBP. All these experiments are expected to increase the income of fish farmers in Uttarakhand. Due to these experiments, the board has selected Uttarakhand for this award. The state has done many experiments in the field of fisheries like aquapark, fish market and contract with ITBP.
