ICC arrest warrant abroad, corruption case in Israel… Netanyahu in deep trouble, questions raised about his future

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently going through a difficult phase. Legal cases are going on against him at both domestic and international levels. On one hand, the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for war crimes in Gaza. On the other hand, Netanyahu also has to testify in a corruption case in Israel. Both cases are creating difficulties for him.
According to ET’s report, a corruption case has been going on against Netanyahu in Israel for a long time. If found guilty, his political career may end. Netanyahu seems to be getting support in the country on the ICC case, but despite his clean chit in the corruption case, public opinion is divided on him.
Corruption case will become a problem!
Professor Yonatan Freeman of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem says that the people of Israel get angry when they feel that the world is against them. The same has been felt in the ICC’s decision as well. The reason for this is that the Israelis are only focused on their loss. He is more concerned about his hostages in Gaza than anything else. Netanyahu has received support at home for ICC action but not in the case of corruption, where he is accused of bribery, breach of trust and fraud.
This corruption case against Netanyahu started in the year 2020. In this, Netanyahu has to record his statement as a witness next month. He was to testify in this case last year but the date was extended due to the war. This time the court has not extended the date. In such a situation, the court’s decision in this case can now come soon. If the decision comes against Netanyahu, it can become difficult for him.
ICC warrant poses a crisis for the future!
Benjamin Netanyahu is facing difficulty due to the ICC warrant outside the house. This warrant also means that if he goes to the 124 signatory countries of the court, he can also be arrested. Most of these include European countries. Yuval Shany, a senior member of the Israel Democracy Institute, says the warrant against Netanyahu would directly lead to further isolation for Israel.
