If something happens to me, kill the President… The Vice President of the Philippines herself gave a contract to kill the President!

Philippines’ Vice President Sara Duterte has shocked her country and the world by saying that she has talked to a contract killer about killing the President. On Saturday, Sara Duterte said that she has hired a killer to kill Philippines’ President Marcos Jr., his wife and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She has told the killer that if she is killed, then these three should be killed. She said in a public statement that this is not a joke. This has created a big political uproar in the Philippines.

Duterte was questioned about his security on Saturday. Responding to this, he said angrily, ‘If something happens to him, the President will also have to lose his life. I have said that if I am killed, then go and kill Marcos, his wife Lisa and Speaker Martin Romualdez as well. This is not a joke.

President’s security increased
Philippines’ National Security Advisor Eduardo Ano said that the government considers all threats to the President serious. The government will work closely with law enforcement and the intelligence community to investigate the threat and potential perpetrators. Any and all threats to the president’s life will be verified and considered a matter of national security. Following Duterte’s statement, Marcos’ Presidential Security Command said it had tightened security protocols and the National Police Chief has ordered an investigation.

Duterte and Marcos have been political allies in the past. Both of them won the mandate together in 2022. Their alliance broke down this year over differences in foreign policy and former President Rodrigo’s policy against drugs. This conflict escalated when Marcos’ cousin Speaker Romualdez cut the budget of Duterte’s office by two-thirds.

Duterte resigned from his cabinet post in June. The Philippines is set for mid-term elections in May. The election is seen as a test of President Marcos’ popularity and his ability to gain political support. In such a situation, Sara’s threats have increased political turmoil. The Philippines has a history of political violence, so these statements have raised concerns among many.
