Uttarakhand: Now Dehradun will get rid of the web of wires, soon the power lines will be underground

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) is striving to make the state an ‘energy state’. UPCL has rapidly started the work of undergrounding the overhead power lines located on the main routes of Dehradun city under the ADB project.
Power lines will be underground in Dehradun
Under this scheme, about 92 km of 33 kV, about 230 km of 11 kV and about 608 km of LT power lines are being underground in Dehradun city. The work is being done by dividing the entire city into three lots. At present, the work of survey and joint survey has been completed in all the lots. After obtaining permission for road cutting, the work of underground power lines is being done in a phased manner.
There will be no damage from strong wind or rain now
Underground cables will cause less damage from environmental factors such as strong wind, rain and tree branches. Apart from this, due to better insulation, power loss will be reduced and the risk of fallen wires or fire will be almost eliminated. Underground cables will also beautify urban and residential areas. Also, the risk of power theft and accidents will be reduced.
Dehradun’s power distribution system will be as strong as the standards of European countries
This scheme is also beneficial from the environmental point of view, because there will be no need to prune trees. The Managing Director of UPCL has instructed that the work should be completed as soon as possible and safety standards should be ensured. Filling of pits and drains will also be done regularly. If this scheme is successful, Dehradun’s power distribution system will be as strong as the standards of European countries.
