Preparations for municipal and panchayat elections begin in Uttarakhand, Election Commission sets limit on expenditure of candidates, releases list

The Uttarakhand State Election Commission is busy preparing for the municipal elections these days. It is expected that before December 25 this year, the State Election Commission will conduct the municipal elections in the state. The State Election Commission has fixed the expenditure limit of candidates for the municipal elections. In this regard, State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar has issued an order. In the order issued, the State Election Commission has implemented the Maximum Election Expenditure and Accounts Presentation Order 2024.
According to the order issued by State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar, the expenditure limit of candidates contesting elections for all the posts in Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayats has been fixed. According to the election expenditure limit fixed for the candidates, the election expenditure limit has been fixed at Rs 20 lakh for up to 40 wards in Nagar Pramukh Municipal Corporation, Rs 25 lakh for 41 to 60 wards, Rs 30 lakh for 61 or more wards.
In the same sequence, two lakh rupees have been fixed for Deputy Nagar Pramukh Municipal Corporation and three lakh rupees for Councilor Municipal Corporation. Along with this, the election expenditure limit for the post of Chairman Nagar Palika Parishad for up to 10 wards has been fixed at Rs 6 lakh and for more than 10 wards at Rs 8 lakh.
At the same time, the election expenditure limit has been fixed at Rs 80 thousand for the member Nagar Palika Parishad, Rs 3 lakh for the chairman candidate in Nagar Panchayat and Rs 50 thousand for the member Nagar Panchayat. According to the order issued by the State Election Commission, the administration will inspect the election expenditure of the candidates and will also keep a strict watch on its accounts.
Nomination papers and security deposit amount of the candidates have also been fixed:
- For contesting the election for the post of Nagar Pramukh Nagar Nigam, the nomination papers for general category candidates have been fixed at Rs 800 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates at Rs 400.
- Along with this, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 12,000 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates at Rs 6,000.
- At the same time, for contesting the election for the post of Deputy City Chief Municipal Corporation, the nomination form has been fixed at Rs. 400 for general category candidates and Rs. 200 for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates.
- Along with this, the security amount has been fixed at Rs. 5,000 for general category candidates and Rs. 2500 for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates.
- For contesting the election for the post of Councillor Municipal Corporation, the nomination form has been fixed at Rs. 400 for general category candidates and Rs. 200 for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates.
- Along with this, the security amount has been fixed at Rs. 4,000 for general category candidates and Rs. 2,000 for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates.
- For contesting the election for the post of Chairman Municipal Council, the nomination form has been fixed at Rs. 500 for general category candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates.
- Along with this, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 6,000 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs 3,000.
- For contesting the election for the post of member Nagar Palika Parishad, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 200 for nomination papers and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs 100.
- Along with this, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 1500 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs 750.
- For contesting the election for the post of Chairman Nagar Panchayat, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 200 for nomination papers and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs 100.
- Along with this, the security deposit amount for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs 3000 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs 1500.
- For contesting the election for the post of Nagar Panchayat member, the nomination fee for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs. 100 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs. 50.
- Along with this, the security deposit for general category candidates has been fixed at Rs. 600 and for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates it is Rs. 300.
