The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake occurred at 10:44 am (Thursday local time) west of the city of Ferndale. Ferndale is a small town in Humboldt County. This place is 209 kilometers away from the Oregon border.
The tremors of the earthquake were felt till South San Francisco. San Francisco is 435 kilometers away from here. Here people felt the earth shaking for a few seconds. After this, many small tremors of the earthquake also occurred. However, there is no report of any major damage or anyone being injured yet.
The tsunami warning continued for about an hour after the tremors of the earthquake. This warning was issued immediately after the earthquake. This warning was for coastal areas from the shores of Monterey Bay in California to Oregon for about 500 miles (805 km). There was a danger of tsunami for more than 5 million people.

Seismologist Lucy Jones told on the social media platform BlueSky that the northwestern part of California is most vulnerable to earthquakes because this is where the tectonic plates meet.
Soon after the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued by the National Weather Service on people’s phones in Northern California. This warning said that strong waves and sea currents can be seen near your coast. You are in danger. Immediately move away from the beach. Go to some high place or go to the interior areas. In Santa Cruz, south of San Francisco, the administration evacuated the main beach and the police put tape at various places to stop the movement of people.
