Uttarakhand: Heliports are ready at eight places in the state, Dhami said – pilgrimage and tourism activities will increase
To facilitate access to remote areas in the geographically challenging state, the government is providing strong infrastructure for air services in the state. In this sequence, heliports have been completed at eight places in the state in the last two years. While the construction of heliports is in progress at six other places.
Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UKADA) has prepared heliports in Sahasradhara, Srinagar, Gauchar, Chinyalisaur, Haldwani, Almora, Pithoragarh and Munsiyari in the last two years, which are now providing their regular services to the passengers. After this, UCADA has started work on heliports in Trijuginarayan, Joshimath, Mussoorie, Ramnagar, Bageshwar, Haridwar. The target has been set to complete the work in all these places in the next one year. According to UCADA Additional Chief Executive Officer Dayanand Saraswati, with this, more than 100 helipads have been completed in the state which are available for operation in any passenger service or emergency situation. In this way, basic facilities for air connectivity to far flung areas have now been made available in the state.
Expansion of Jolly Grant and Pantnagar Airport
The state government is expanding Pantnagar and Jolly Grant Airports. For this, land acquisition process is being done. Pantnagar Airport is being developed on the lines of Green Field Airport while Jolly Grant is being developed as per international standards.
What is Heliport
Heliport provides parking for several helicopters at the same time, maintenance (hangar) facility as well as basic facilities like rest, canteen, toilet for passengers. Heliport is constructed on the lines of airport.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream is that the common man of the country can also travel by air. For this, air services are being developed in Uttarakhand through Udan Yojana as well as Chief Minister Udan Khatola Yojana. Its benefits will also be available in the form of increased pilgrimage and tourism activities.
