Uttarakhand: The way to the queen of hills is easy, now you can reach Mussoorie from Dehradun in just 15 minutes
The work of Doon-Mussoorie ropeway project is progressing rapidly. After two years, tourists will start reaching Mussoorie through ropeway.
Usually during the tourist season, it takes 1.5 to 3 hours for tourists to reach Mussoorie from Dehradun, but through ropeway, tourists will be able to enjoy Mussoorie by completing the journey in just 15 minutes.
The distance from Dehradun to Mussoorie by road is 33 km, while this distance is 5.5 km through ropeway. Automatic passenger trolleys will be installed in the ropeway, whose doors will be automatic. About 1300 passengers will be able to reach from one side in an hour through these trolleys.
The foundation of the lower terminal and parking is almost ready
The foundation of the lower terminal and parking of the ropeway in Purkul village adjacent to Dehradun is almost ready. The work of parking is under construction on the third floor, while the work of the approach road for the upper terminal being built at Gandhi Chowk Mussoorie is in progress. After this, the foundation work of the upper terminal will start there.
The Tourism Development Board had launched the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway at a cost of Rs 300 crore through Mussoorie Skywar Company under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode earlier this year.
- One end of the ropeway is being built in Purkul village, while the other is being built in Gandhi Chowk of Mussoorie.
- A 10-storey multi-level parking is being built in Purkul for parking the vehicles of tourists.
- The parking will have the capacity to park more than two thousand vehicles.
- Along with this, tourists will get the facility of cafeteria, toilet etc. for refreshment.
- The Tourism Department claims that the construction of the ropeway will be completed by the year 2026.
- The journey will be amidst beautiful views, there will be freedom from traffic jams
The journey to Mussoorie through the ropeway will be full of extreme adventure and beautiful views for the tourists. Tourists will reach directly to Mussoorie’s Mall Road by passing through the mountains. This will also curb the traffic jams in Mussoorie and Mussoorie city of Dehradun during the tourist season.
According to the data of the Tourism Department, more than 10 thousand tourists reach Mussoorie daily during the tourist season. In such a situation, traffic gets disrupted in Mussoorie and there is also a problem of vehicle parking.
Increase in the revenue of the Tourism Department, Purkul will shine
The Doon-Mussoorie ropeway will increase the revenue of the Tourism Department significantly. Also, there will be a hustle and bustle of vehicles and tourists in Purkul village throughout the day. This will also promote local employment. At the same time, tourists will be able to travel pollution free.
This ropeway will be able to operate continuously in all seasons between snowfall and rain. In such a situation, the closure of the Mussoorie route due to landslides and debris during the rain will not affect the tourists. During this time also, tourists will reach Mussoorie through ropeway at the right time.
All the land to be used for Doon-Mussoorie ropeway has been acquired and construction has started. Efforts are being made to complete the quality work within the stipulated time. For this, the construction work is being continuously monitored and strict instructions have been given to the contractors. – Sachin Kurve, Secretary, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board
