Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated virtually in the regional conference organized on the subject of drug trafficking and national security, organized under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister gave information about the enforcement action, special campaigns and targets taken in relation to the prevention of drugs in Uttarakhand.
He said that we are moving fast on our resolution of Drugs Free Uttarakhand by 2025 and various efforts are being made at many levels in the state to cooperate in making a developed India and drug-free India by 2047.
He said that both the subjects of drug trafficking and national security are interconnected. The youth going towards drugs can not only cause national security but also social disintegration. In view of this, efforts are being made at all three levels of institutional, enforcement and awareness in the state. Professional criminals engaged in drug trafficking and its illegal trade are being cracked down with force. Enforcement action is being taken through Anti Narcotics Task Force. NDPS. Legal action is being taken against criminals involved in drug abuse under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Rehabilitation centres have been established in the district to bring back drug addicts to the mainstream. Strict legal provisions have been made to take strict action against drug dealers.
Under the public awareness campaign against drug abuse, special awareness campaigns are being run by taking along Mahila Mangal Dals and Yuva Mangal Dals. Public awareness camps are being organized in vulnerable areas. Counselors have been appointed in prisons and schools. Toll free helpline number has been issued.
In the last year, 2183 awareness rallies, 1050 seminars, 75 street plays and 10 marathons etc. were organized. Through which more than three lakh students and people were directly made aware. Continuous efforts are being made against drug abuse even in the present times with the efforts and coordination of both institutional and individual efforts of the government, departments and various organizations.
