Uttarakhand / Dehradun: Bihari Mahasabha celebrated Makar Sankranti festival with great pomp and show, worshipped Sun God for the happiness and prosperity of the people of the state

On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Bihari Mahasabha organized Khichdi Dahi Chuda at Shri Shiv Bal Yogi Ashram, Rajpur Road. In the event, all the members and office bearers of the Sabha together traditionally ate the prasad of Khichdi Dahi Chuda.
Let us tell you that the Mahasabha has been organizing this program for the last 17 years. Makar Sankranti is also organized in the calendar of the Mahasabha. Which is celebrated every year on 14 January. According to the pre-announced program, the members of the Sabha laid out the outline of the upcoming Saraswati Puja and held a meeting regarding Saraswati Puja. After the meeting, all the office bearers and members of the organization together consumed Khichdi as Bhog Prasad.
Addressing the gathering, Bihari Mahasabha President Lalan Singh said that in Ayurveda, rice is considered as the moon. Black urad dal is considered as the symbol of Saturn. Turmeric is the symbol of Jupiter. Salt is considered as the symbol of Venus. Green vegetables are related to Mercury. The heat of Khichdi strengthens the person’s relationship with Mars and Sun. Thus, eating Khichdi strengthens all the major planets. There is a tradition that eating Khichdi made of new grains on the day of Makar Sankranti keeps the body healthy throughout the year and eating yellow food on this day is considered auspicious.
In the program, the secretary of the Sabha, Chandan Kumar Jha, while addressing the members of the Sabha, said that Khichdi is also the national food of our India and Makar Sankranti is celebrated in different forms in every state of India. The importance of eating Khichdi is considered more on the day of Makar Sankranti. Khichdi is made of lentils, rice and vegetables, which is a balanced and nutritious diet. It is considered to be a food that warms the body and gives energy in winter. According to the Vedic tradition, eating Khichdi on this day brings happiness and prosperity.

According to mythology, on the day of Makar Sankranti, Sun God visits the abode of his son Shani, as Shani is the lord of Capricorn and Aquarius. Thus, this festival also symbolizes the unique union of father and son. According to another legend, Makar Sankranti is also celebrated as the victory of Lord Vishnu over the demons. It is said that on this day Lord Vishnu destroyed the demons on earth and cut off their heads and installed them in Mandara Mountain. Thus, the tradition of celebrating this victory of Lord Vishnu as the festival of Makar Sankranti started.
In the Khichdi program of the Bihari Mahasabha, Mahasabha President Lallan Singh, Secretary Chandan Kumar Jha, Treasurer Ritesh Kumar, Former President Satyendra Singh, Publicity Chief Vinay Kumar Yadav, Suresh Thakur, Dharmendra Thakur, Ganesh Sahni, Sabha executive members Alok Singh, Omkar Tripathi, Amarendra Kumar, Harishchandra Jha, Umesh Rai, Rambaran Yadav, Mrityunjay Vishwas, along with hundreds of workers took part.
