Fierce fire in Turkey’s resort, 66 dead so far; people jumped from windows out of fear

66 people died in a fire at a resort located in Bolu province of Turkey on Tuesday. 51 people were also seriously injured in this accident. According to local officials, the incident happened late at night.
The name of the hotel in which the fire broke out is being told as Kartalkaya Ski Resort. Bolu Governor Abdul Aziz Aydin said that some people jumped from the building due to panic, which also caused many deaths.
Team formed for investigation
The cause of the fire is not yet clear. The fire broke out in the hotel at 3:30 am local time and gradually it engulfed the entire hotel located on the peak of Koroglu Mountain.

Fire brigade, search and rescue units and medical teams were dispatched as soon as the alert was received. More than 230 guests have been rescued from the hotel so far. The Justice Minister has ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter.
Kartalkaya is a major tourist destination
- Kartalkaya is one of Turkey’s major winter tourist destinations, where thousands of tourists come during the ski season. On the hotel’s website, it has been described as one of the top destinations for Turkish skiers since 1978.
- 23 slopes are available for visitors within a radius of about 20 kilometers from the hotel. Bolu is a city located on the highway between Istanbul and Ankara, which is also the administrative center of Bolu province and Bolu district.
- The hotel located on Koroglu Mountain is spread over about 60 thousand square meters, which is 38 kilometers from Bolu city and 180 kilometers from Ankara and Istanbul.
