Trump called Putin intelligent; said he can impose sanctions on Russia if he does not come for talks
US President Donald Trump described his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as intelligent. Trump reiterated on Tuesday that he hopes to talk to Putin very soon. Trump once again called on Putin to stop the nearly three-year-old Russian invasion of Ukraine. Trump claimed that the conflict would never have happened if he were president.
Trump said, ‘Russia would never go into Ukraine. I had a very strong understanding with Putin. This would never have happened. He disrespected Biden. He disrespects people. He is smart. He understands.’ Trump warned that he is ready to meet Putin at any time, but if Putin does not come to the negotiating table on the issue of Ukraine, he can impose sanctions on Russia.
When asked by reporters whether the US would impose additional sanctions on Russia if Putin does not come to the negotiating table? Trump said that it could happen. Trump said, ‘The war should never have started. If you had a capable president, which you did not have, there would be no war. If I were the president, there would never have been a war in Ukraine.’
Trump said that apart from this, the situation in the Middle East would never have been what it is today, because Iran had gone bankrupt.
Responding to a question, Trump said that he is ready to meet Putin anytime. He said that whenever he wants, I will meet him. Millions of people are being killed. It is a terrible situation. Most of the soldiers are losing their lives. Many people have been killed and the cities look like demolition sites. The problem with Ukraine is that more people have died than what you are reporting. You are not telling the real number and I am not blaming you for that. I am probably blaming our government for not releasing those numbers.
When asked whether the US will continue to send weapons to Ukraine or will stop it soon? Trump said that he is investigating the matter. We will consider it. We are talking to Volodymyr Zelensky. We are going to talk to President Putin very soon and see how this all goes. We will consider it very soon.
He said that one thing I feel is that the EU should pay much more than they are paying. We are there for 200 billion USD more. Now it affects them. There is an ocean between us, right? The EU should be our equal. I mean, what are we, fools? I think the answer is yes.
Trump also said that Ukrainian President Zelensky told him that he wants peace. It takes two people. We will see what happens. I will meet him whenever he wants. I want to see this end. Millions of people are dying. It is a terrible situation.
