Uttarakhand: Campaigning for civic elections ends… Today leaders are asking for votes from door to door, tomorrow voting will be held for 5405 candidates

The noise of election campaign in 100 municipal bodies of the state has stopped at 5 pm on Tuesday. In view of the municipal elections to be held on January 23 in the state, the State Election Commission has banned election meetings and rallies. Now on Wednesday, the candidates will only reach the voter’s house and ask for votes.
Under the instructions issued by Secretary Commission Rahul Kumar Goyal, all types of election rallies and meetings have been banned 48 hours before the end of voting. No public meeting can be held anywhere after 5 pm on January 21. He instructed all the District Magistrates and Observers through a letter to ensure that the election campaign rallies and public meetings of the candidates are stopped in the polling to be held on January 23. Candidates can only do door-to-door campaigning.
Secretary Goyal said that any advertisement already being broadcast in print or electronic media can be broadcast, in which compliance of the Model Code of Conduct has been ensured. But it should not contain any election related matter which may be construed as influencing the election results, promoting the prospects of candidates or any particular party or adversely affecting them.
Advertisements appealing voters to vote can be given in print media, in which compliance of the above things is ensured. No election related interview, meeting, debate etc. will be broadcast on behalf of any candidate, political party or any other person in electronic media.
5405 candidates in the fray
The fate of 5405 candidates across the state will be sealed in ballot boxes on January 23. 72 candidates are in the fray for the post of mayor in 11 municipal corporations. 445 candidates are in the fray for the post of president in 89 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats and 4888 candidates are in the fray for the posts of councilor-ward member in all the bodies.
