Uttarakhand / Haridwar: Khanpur MLA accused two people including a woman of blackmailing, case registered

Khanpur MLA of Haridwar district has filed a case in Laksar police station accusing two people including a woman of blackmailing. Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar has accused the security agency of threatening him after hiring and paying security guards. On the complaint of the MLA, the police has started investigating the matter.

Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar has told the police in a complaint that in the year 2020, he was appointed as a director in a news channel. During that time, a person connected through social media contacted him. He told that he has a security agency. Due to being connected on social media, he agreed to his words and asked to hire a security guard. After that, the man sent a woman to his office and said that she looks after the work of his agency.

In the year 2021, his private channel office was closed. After which he paid the full amount to the security agency. The MLA alleges that even after that, he often used to get phone calls from that person. On 21 November 2022 also, he was called and money was demanded by saying that someone at home was unwell. On which he helped him by sending money through Google Pay.

The MLA told the police in the complaint that, recently on 18 January 2025, he again got a missed call from that person, but he could not talk to him. After some time, that person tagged the MLA and posted a post on social media and wrote wrong things about the MLA. After this, when Umesh Sharma called him, a demand of ₹ 25 lakh was made by taking the name of the woman and threatened to defame him if the money was not given. After this, on January 19, he was called again and threatened to implicate him in a false case of rape.

At the same time, Inspector in-charge of Laksar Kotwali, Rajiv Rauthan said that he has received a complaint. The police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation. At present the matter is being investigated.
