Uttarakhand: Election Commission sends letter to Dehradun DM warning him for code of conduct violation

During the civic elections in Uttarakhand, the State Election Commission had issued notices on cases related to violation of the code of conduct. In one such case, the Dehradun District Magistrate was also given a notice. The reply to which was given at the level of Dehradun District Magistrate. However, the State Election Commission seemed dissatisfied with the reply given by Dehradun District Magistrate Sanvin Bansal. Perhaps this is the reason why the Commission has warned the District Magistrate in a warning tone not to repeat such a thing in future.

DM’s clarification

It was clarified by the Dehradun District Magistrate that there were many important works in the district including the Prime Minister’s visit. Whereas the concerned Naib Tehsildar is not doing the work related to election duty. In view of this, Naib Tehsildar Rajendra Singh Rawat was transferred from Rishikesh to Dehradun.

Commission’s objection

The State Election Commission clarified in a letter to the District Magistrate that during the period of the election process, while the Model Code of Conduct is in force, transfers and new appointments of officers and employees working in various departments in the constituency cannot be made. This ban also applies to IAS, IPS, PCS and PPS cadre officers related to law and order and elections. Determining the violation of the code of conduct is also the jurisdiction of the commission.

The commission reprimanded

The commission said that instructions were given to stop the transfer of Naib Tehsildar Rajendra Singh Rawat with immediate effect. These were complied with. The commission has not been informed about this either. In such a situation, this matter comes under violation of the model code of conduct and instructions are given to not repeat such a thing in future.
