Uttarakhand / Dehradun: License of Sudhowala’s wine and beer shop cancelled, villagers were protesting for a long time

Taking a strict decision in favor of public sentiments, Dehradun District Magistrate has issued an order to cancel the license of the controversial wine and beer shop located in Sudhowala. After hearing both the parties in this matter, using the powers provided in Section 34 and 59 of the Excise Act 1910, the license of this wine shop of Sudhowala has been canceled with immediate effect and the District Excise Officer has been instructed to take necessary action soon.
Wine and beer shop license canceled: According to the information received from the district administration, the District Magistrate Dehradun heard both the parties regarding the hearing of the closure of the wine and beer shop near village Sudhowala as per the instructions of the court. Villagers say that students are getting affected due to the liquor shop near the educational institution and departmental store. Due to this, the people around are also upset.
People were protesting against the wine and beer shop: In this matter, local women and elderly were on a dharna for a long time. The people of the area have expressed happiness and felt relieved on this strict decision of the DM. Also, they say that our trust in the administration has also increased. In the hearing, there was also talk of changing the approved location and current situation of the wine and beer shop.
DM told about the hearing: District Magistrate Savin Bansal has said that-
The villagers presented their side and said that permission for the wine and beer shop has been taken in the name of Chakrata Road. Whereas the shop is not on Chakrata Road but inside Bhauwala Road. The villagers have also alleged violation of standards and expressed the fear of being implicated in a false case. On the other hand, the other side gave its clarification and said that they have obtained the license after completing all the formalities. The property where the departmental store is located is commercial and approved by MDDA. Both the parties were heard. The decision has been given after examining the report received from the local notification unit and all the facts.

MLA also met the DM: Local people have been opposing the opening of a liquor shop in the village for a long time. In this regard, the regional MLA had also met the DM along with the local villagers.
