Did Prime Minister Narendra Modi do his BA from Delhi University or not? The answer to this question has not been found for the last 10 years. All opposition parties including Congress have been saying that PM Modi never graduated, while BJP leaders have been defending PM Modi’s degree. Delhi University, from where it is claimed that PM Modi did his BA, has also been supporting PM Modi in this matter, although the university has not openly presented any facts till date. Now when this matter was heard in the Delhi High Court, even then Delhi University insisted on not making PM Modi’s degree public.

On Tuesday, an RTI demanding to make PM Modi’s BA degree public was heard in the Delhi High Court. In this case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was seen pleading on behalf of Delhi University. He argued that the matter of PM Modi’s degree is not a matter of public interest, it has only become a matter of public interest, so there is no need to disclose it under RTI. He also said that the public may be interested in something but it cannot always be public interest. He asked whether there is any public interest in this case?

At the same time, senior counsel Sanjay Hegde, on behalf of the RTI applicant, argued that the RTI Act has a provision to disclose such information in the larger public interest. Let us tell you that the next hearing of the case will be on February 19.

CIC gave the order in 2016

When BJP started making claims of PM Modi doing BA from Delhi University during PM Modi’s first term, then opposition leaders demanded disclosure of the degree in this matter. RTI was also filed in this matter. After this, the Central Information Commission (CIC) in its order on 21 December 2016 allowed inspection of the records of all the students who passed the BA examination in the year 1978. It is claimed that PM Modi also passed this examination in the same year. However, Delhi University knocked the door of Delhi High Court opposing this order. The High Court stayed this order of the CIC on 23 January 2017. Since then, this matter is pending.
