Uttarakhand: Congress will hold a referendum on UCC, people will have to answer 15 questions

Congress is going to conduct a referendum in the entire state regarding the Uniform Civil Code. Congress State President Karan Mahara and Advocate Virendra Singh Khurana, while holding a joint press conference, have released a form regarding the Uniform Civil Code today. Congress will send the form to all the district block town and Nyaya Panchayat level. In which 15 questions have been given. After this, Congress will present the data received from across the state to the AICC and the media. Also, the forms will be issued through digital medium by the IT department of the party.
Congress State President Karan Mahara said that the Uniform Civil Code has been implemented in the state, but even today the residents of the state are not able to understand the need and utility of this law. This code is promoting live-in relationships, whereas the culture of India and Devbhoomi Uttarakhand does not accept it at all, hence the Congress is conducting a referendum to know the consent or disagreement of the public on the answers to important questions related to the UCC. They have registered their protest on sections 378 to 389 of Part III in the code.
Congress state president Karan Mahara said that the culture of the country never allows for cohabitation. On one hand, there is talk of domicile in the state, but on the other hand, if a person lives in Uttarakhand for 1 year, is it right to consider him a permanent resident of the state? At the same time, an outsider is being allowed to live-in here.
Karan Mahara raised the question that does any family of Uttarakhand agree to the fact that their children should have cohabitation without marriage, therefore, Part 3 of the Uniform Civil Code shows the double character of the BJP. In protest against this, the Congress is collectively going to gherao the Vidhan Sabha on a large scale on February 20.
Advocate Virendra Singh Khurana says that the BJP government is working to break the family unit instead of uniting it under the guise of the code. What does the BJP want by promoting live-in? This is beyond understanding. He said that the referendum which is being conducted by the Congress should have been conducted by a five-member committee and an attempt should have been made to know whether the public wants to live in a live-in relationship, but no such referendum was conducted by the BJP government.
