Uttarakhand / Dehradun: New initiative for waste management; After Kimari, now Plastic Bank Mission will be started in Bidhauli

After setting up a plastic disposal system in Dehradun city’s tourist-centric area Kimari, SDC Foundation has now started the Plastic Bank Mission in Doon’s outer area Bidhauli. After extensive public participation in the Maggi Point Plastic Banks established at the tourist spot Kimari on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route, plastic banks will also be established in the hostels and Maggi Points located in Bidhauli.

Under the Plastic Bank Project run by Dehradun-based environment and advocacy group Social Development for Communities (SDC) Foundation, a discussion program on plastic was organized with various hostel operators, managers, and Maggi Point operators located in Bidhauli, Kandoli and Paunda at the Peepal Tree Hostel in Bidhauli. The main objective of the program was to discuss the measures for proper management and recycling of plastic waste of the hostels and Maggi Points established in Bidhauli, Kandoli and Paunda areas.
Plastic will be recycled and used
Apart from this, the local community and businessmen were made aware through the program that they should properly collect plastic waste in the plastic banks established by the foundation, so that not only the environment can be saved, but plastic can also be recycled and used in a new form. While starting the program, Dinesh Semwal from SDC Foundation highlighted the importance of plastic waste management. He said that plastic pollution is a serious problem, which we all have to solve together.
Let us tell you that with this initiative, it is expected that hostel operators and shopkeepers will play an important role in reducing plastic pollution by increasing participation in the proper management of plastic. Along with Bidhauli, the foundation is also starting to provide its services in Joliyan, Akhandwali Bhilang area, another outer area of the city with immense tourism potential. Foundation member Pyarelal said that through the Plastic Bank Project, his organization has established more than 300 plastic banks in Dehradun in the last one year for the proper management of plastic waste.
Plastic banks are being operated with the help of more than 1 lakh people
The main objective of setting up plastic banks is to create a system by arranging plastic collection and segregation in schools, colleges, hostels and tourist places like Kimari. At present, the foundation is operating plastic banks with the help of more than 1 lakh people from 92 schools of Dehradun, 94 Maggi points on Dehradun-Kimadi-Mussoorie route, 40 hostels in Bidholi, 38 on Dwara route, 9 universities and colleges, 7 resident welfare associations, 7 showrooms and many other institutions.
