Landslides and new cracks have appeared

According to reports, incidents of landslides have been reported in many areas of Nainital city including Tiffintop, China Peak, Chartanlodge, Snowview. Along with this, new cracks have also started appearing in many areas. Earlier in the year 2009, many experts had prepared a report on the carrying capacity of Nainital and sent it to the government. It is believed that the government is preparing to take steps to implement the suggestions of geologists and common people to save Nainital.

Rats also created terror

Amidst the threat of landslides in the hills of Nainital, rats have also created terror. Rats have hollowed out the walls of thousands of houses and commercial establishments in the city, the safety walls of drains, etc. Due to this, the drains are getting choked and removing the debris is proving to be a challenging task for the cleaners. The Nainital District Magistrate has also sought a report after conducting tests in this matter. According to media reports, rats have also hollowed out the security walls of Mall Road and other roads near the lake. If the soil of the walls comes out, it increases the risk of cracks in houses and land subsidence.

Mountains are sinking in 3 KM

Recently, frightening incidents of land subsidence were reported in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. Now a similar case is being seen in Khupi village, located at a distance of 8 km from Nainital. People are leaving their homes here due to fear of some untoward incident. According to the local people, incidents of land subsidence started coming to the fore in Khupi village since the year 2012. Mountains are sinking in an area of ​​​​about 3 km in the village. According to media reports, cracks are appearing in 19 houses of the village every year. The administration team has also recently inspected Khupi village.

Landslide in Charton Lodge area too

Apart from all this, incidents of landslides are being seen once again in the Charton Lodge area of ​​Nainital. Media reports have said that dozens of houses located nearby, including 18 families in the area, are in danger. So far, 3 families have left their homes here. A warning has also been issued for the rest of the families. The SDM of Nainital has said that the administration has surveyed Khupi village, cracks are appearing in many houses. Landslides are also being monitored in the Charton Lodge area.

Entire Nainital in danger

According to the information, the main boundary thrust connecting the Lesser Himalayas and the Outer Himalayas (Shivalik) range passes through Khupi village of Nainital. According to media reports, this boundary works to compress the Himalayas, due to which the ground starts rising and incidents of cracks and landslides are being seen. Experts say that not only Khupi village but the entire Nainital city is in danger. According to media reports, recently two days ago Tiffin Top has collapsed due to a landslide.
