According to media reports, Kalpana Saxena was posted as SP Traffic in Bareilly in the year 2010. She came to know that some of her constables extort money from truck drivers. So on 2 September 2010, when she reached near the shrine on Bareilly-Shahjahanpur Road in the Cantt police station area of Bareilly, she caught the policemen red-handed while extorting money from truck drivers. In such a situation, constable Ravindra, Manoj and another Dharmendra tried to kill him by crushing him with the car. He was also dragged by the car for 200 meters. He was also attacked on his head. Even the policemen kept saying that ‘Today is your last day.’ When they could not kill SP Kalpana Saxena, they pushed her and ran away. This incident shook the administrative staff across the country.
During the hearing on the punishment file on Monday, the prosecution said that if a public servant is trying to kill his senior officer, then how would he behave with the public? Policemen are given the responsibility of protecting the senior officers and leaders of the country. Here the culprits have acted against the system. The court said that the four culprits could have backed up the car and run away, but they tried to kill the senior officer by running the car over him in broad daylight. Such culprits should be given severe punishment.
