Avalanche warning in six districts of Uttarakhand till March 3, tourists advised not to travel

After the avalanche incident near Mana in Chamoli district, the government has become alert about the safety of tourists and trekkers in the high Himalayan region. In line with the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, tourists camping in resorts and tent colonies in high altitude areas including Auli, Harshil will be sent to safe places.

This step has been taken in view of the warning of snowfall, avalanche and lightning in areas with an altitude of two thousand meters and above in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts till March 3.

The Chief Minister has also appealed to tourists not to travel to these areas for the next three days. Also, in view of the possibility of avalanche, instructions have also been given to stop road and other construction works in the high Himalayan areas till this month. On the other hand, efforts are being started to restore wireless network in the villages of five snow-covered blocks where communication services are disrupted.

Avalanche warning in areas above 2000 meters altitude

DGRE (Defense Geoinformatics Research Establishment) Chandigarh has issued an avalanche warning in areas above 2000 meters altitude in the state.

Along with this, the Meteorological Department has also issued a forecast of lightning with thunder in most areas of Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Tehri districts till March 3. In view of all this, on the instructions of Chief Minister Dhami, Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman has sent a letter to the DMs of all the concerned districts and issued an advisory.

Disaster Management Secretary gave instructions

The Disaster Management Secretary has asked the concerned District Magistrates to take tourists, trekking tourists and local residents to safe places in the concerned areas in view of the forecast of DGRE and Meteorological Department.

Along with this, emphasis has been laid on creating awareness to prevent tourists from coming to the hilly areas till March 3, so that avalanche accidents can be avoided. District Magistrates have been instructed to take special precautions to deal with any situation.
