Taliban captured Pakistani border crossing, ‘Maulana’ Munir’s army fled leaving the battle!

The Taliban has claimed to have captured the Torkham border. This is an important border crossing located between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This crossing was closed by Pakistan a few weeks ago. Since then, sporadic clashes were going on between the Taliban and the Pakistani army, which intensified on Monday. The Taliban has claimed that the Pakistani army had to flee from the Torkham border post due to heavy firing and casualties.

Pakistan-Taliban were firing at each other

CNN-News18 has quoted top Taliban sources as saying that tensions have increased in Torkham recently due to Pakistan. He said, two days ago, firing started between Pakistani and Afghan forces at the crossing that was closed for more than a week due to a dispute over the construction of a new border post by Afghanistan. At first both sides attacked each other with light weapons, but later heavy weapons were used.

Why did Pakistan close the border crossing

The Taliban have reportedly built new structures such as border posts and bunkers, which Pakistan has termed as a violation of previous agreements. Pakistan considers the area as its own. After this, the angry Pakistani army closed the crossing, disrupting trade and daily life. Due to the standoff, trade activities at the Torkham border have been suspended, with export vehicles parked at the Zero Point being sent back.

What did the Taliban say

The Taliban said, “Pakistan is wrongly accusing us of sending terrorists. The economic impact of the border closure is more painful for Pakistan and they are suffering heavy losses daily,” sources said. Pakistan and Afghanistan’s forces regularly exchange fire, often due to disagreements over construction near the Durand Line. The Durand Line is a 2,400-km (1,500-mile) long border drawn by the British in 1896 and Kabul disputes it.
