‘Women should be allowed to commit one murder…’, this veteran woman leader made this demand to the President

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Rohini Khadse has written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu and made a unique demand. She has appealed to allow women to commit one murder in self-defense. This demand has been made in the context of the serious situation of women’s safety and increasing crimes.

Demand to allow women to kill in self-defense

Rohini Khadse, president of the women’s wing of NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), has recently written a letter to the President urging that women should be allowed to commit one murder against the atrocities being committed on them. Her demand has come in the context of the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in Mumbai. Khadse says that crimes against women are increasing rapidly in the country, but the legal process is so slow and complicated that it becomes difficult for the victims to get justice. She wrote in her letter, “We want to end the mentality that promotes sexual violence and atrocities. We should be allowed to kill one in self-defense.”

Serious concern about women’s safety

Rohini Khadse, in her letter, citing the World Population Review Survey, said that India has been described as the most unsafe country for women in Asia. She said that strict steps need to be taken to make women feel safe. Giving historical examples, she wrote that Maharani Tarabai and Ahilyabai Holkar had taken up the sword to protect their kingdom and people. Today, when the safety of women has become the biggest issue in the country, we also need to take strong steps to protect ourselves. However, she admitted that it is sad to make such a demand on the land of non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi and Mahatma Buddha.

Worrying figures in NCRB report

According to the 2022 report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 4,45,256 cases of crime against women were registered. This figure shows that on an average 51 FIRs are registered every hour.

  • In 2021, 4,28,278 cases were registered against women.
  • In 2020, this figure was 3,71,503.

It is clear from these figures that the situation of women’s safety is becoming serious day by day.
